Scrap-and-build redevelopment projects require that the history and memories associated with the site be respected and represented in some way as part of the design. In particular, the higher the cultural value that a legacy holds, such as in the case of the restoration and rehabilitation of a historic garden, the higher the value of the revived space will be. Today’s matured society, with its discerning citizens, treasures authentic excellence. We also provide suggestions for subtle ways to pay respect to these legacies in a suitable manner for the project, such as keeping a tree that hold a special place in people’s memory as a symbolic tree or reusing a part of a building remembered fondly by many as a monument in a plaza.
